I3float
I3FLOAT is an interregional innovation project co-financed by the European Union, developed in consortium by 24 partners from eight European regions.
In recent years, floating offshore wind energy has emerged as one of the key technologies for the energy transition in Europe. Its remarkable growth comes alongside the need to consolidate and scale an industrial value chain capable of responding to the technological and commercial challenges posed by its large-scale deployment.
While the industry has achieved significant progress in the development of innovative solutions, there are still aspects yet to be resolved. Specifically, the consortium formed by partners from the Basque Country, Andalusia, Occitania/PACA and Flanders, together with the Connection Nodes of the Canary Islands, Campania, Western Pomerania and Varna, has identified the need to strengthen interregional cooperation and to accelerate the commercialization of innovative solutions, especially with the active participation of SMEs in less developed regions.
In this context, interregional innovation is presented as an essential process for scaling the European floating offshore wind value chain, with direct implications for the sector's competitiveness and the economic development of the participating territories.
I3FLOAT proposes addressing this challenge through a comprehensive approach that includes the launch of open calls to fund SME-led projects, the development of interregional transfer tools, business support services, and the preparation of a roadmap for the European floating wind sector.
